Cars, trains, buses, planes.....what's the right way to travel to achieve net zero?

We kick off 2020 with Planet Pod’s fourth episode in collaboration with the Grantham Institute which looks at the impact of travel and transport on climate change and our ability to achieve a net zero carbon economy by 2050. Amanda is joined by experts Dr Audrey de Nazelle and Dr Mark Stettler. We look at the intersection between environmental sciences, health behaviour, transportation, air quality and urban planning and consider what’s the right route to get us to a net zero future.

Our guests:

Audrey de Nazelle (from IC website) (1)

Dr Audrey de Nazelle joined the Centre for Environmental Policy, Imperial College London, in 2012 as a lecturer in air pollution management. She is an expert in risk assessment and exposure science. Her research is at the intersection of environmental sciences, health behaviour, transportation, and urban planning. Her work aims at guiding decision makers towards health-promoting built environments and policies. It involves novel and holistic approaches to assessing behavioral, environmental and health impacts of urban plans and policies.

Mark Stettler (from IC website) (1)

Dr Marc Stettler is Senior Lecturer in Transport and the Environment in the Centre for Transport Studies at Imperial College London where he leads the Transport & Environment Laboratory (@TransEnvLab_IC). He joined Imperial as a Lecturer in 2015.

Marc completed his PhD on the impacts of aviation emissions at the University of Cambridge in 2013. He has an MPhil in Engineering for Sustainable Development from Cambridge, and a BSc in Natural Sciences from the University of Durham.

Marc’s research focuses on evaluating and reducing the effect of transport activity on climate change and air pollution, with particular attention to understanding sources of greenhouse gases (GHGs) and pollutant emissions, especially nanoparticles. He leads a broad portfolio of research projects undertaken by his group spanning across transport modes from road to aviation.
